Why learn how to sketch?
For our capstone projects we will need to be able to make conceptual sketches to brainstorm and share our product ideas. By completing a series of different drawing tutorials I was able to learn various different drawing techniques that will help when I am sketching ideas for the capstone project. The sketches are broken out into eight different categories that are all listed below. Within each category is evidence of my work with notes from my engineering notebook and pictures of each sketch I completed.
Technical Drawing 1
Technical Drawing 2
Orthographic Drawing
Perspective
Complex 2-Point Perspective Shapes Challenge
Rectangular Planes with Centers
Cylinder in a Box, Pitcher, Curved Surfaces

Reflection:
The sketching process went well after I started to get used to the process. I was not very familiar with sketching before starting the tutorials so it took me some time to practice and become better at the skills in each video. I learned much more about how to actually make a sketch. In the past I had always draw the image right away without making any scaffolding or planning out the different perspectives. I also learned that it is much harder to follow a schedule and get work done when the assignments are not broken out into individual deadlines. Because all the tutorials were due on the same day, I didn't hold myself to as strict as a time management plan as I had hoped. In the future I will improve by equally distributing out the work load so that I am able to finish a little bit each day. I can also improve my sketches in the future by practicing the guidelines and scaffolding. This is the area that I still am weak in so I need to practice more to improve my skills.
